Colorful Catalysts

An algorithmically generated interactive visualization mimicking the BZ Reaction, controlled with a Joystick.

Belousov–Zhabotinsky Reaction

Let the waves of the Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction wash over you in this real time mimic of the algorithm. Interacting with the midi controller reveals different algorithmic variations. This piece has been projected onto the windows of the south tower of the University Bridge for the last few months to brighten up travelers’ evening commute, as well as making appearances at venues around Seattle. Made in TouchDesigner.

Joystick Controlled Waves of Color

This algorithmically generated interactive visualization mimics the BZ Reaction. Users become co-creators, shaping the evolving patterns and forms on display using a midi controller. This installation features dynamic washes of color that infinitely repeat allowing the brain to relax into them.
